An interdisciplinary approach regarding child development and learning is very important and underscores our "Whole-Child, Whole-Brain" philosophy. Communication with families and collaboration/consultation networks with health, allied health and education professionals promote development of children's potential and success at home, school and beyond.

Professional Staff

Our Team of Specialists provide a wide range of expertise in: Pediatric Neuropsychology, Developmental Psychology, Behavioral Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Child Development, Speech/Language, Occupational Therapy/Feldenkrais Movement Specialists, Education/Special Education.

Collaboration

We proudly collaborate with specialty groups who provide quality care to the children.  We have a strong working relationship with many professionals.  We provide referrals, as needed, including: Pediatric Neurology, Pediatric Psychiatry, Child Psychology, Naturopathic/Environmental Wellness, Pediatric Ophthalmology/Optometry, Pediatric Otology/Audiology, Speech/Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Dyslexic Specialists/Tutors, Education Advocates, among other pediatric specialists.

Biosketch: Dr. Val L. Scaramella-Nowinski: Pediatric Neuropsychologist
Dr. Nowinski is committed to children, their health, learning and development.  She has worked as a clinician and researcher regarding pediatric brain-behavior development for greater than 35 years. 

During the late 1970's, Dr. Nowinski had the privilege of working at a medical trauma center with clinicians and researchers involved in neuroscience evaluation and treatment.  After several years of master degree work at the center, Dr. Nowinski pursued doctoral studies in Clinical Neuropsychology.  During Dr. Nowinski's studies she met the well noted, leading neuropsychologist in the country at that time, Ralph Reitan, Ph.D. and had the privilege of studying with him.

Dr. Nowinski's doctoral research was titled "Systemic Analysis: A Neuropsychological Investigation Of The Psychological Structure And Cerebral Organization Of Mental Processes".  Dr. Nowinski has been deeply involved in developing Neurosystems Biology understanding of child brain development and learning.  She founded and directs the Pediatric Neuropsychology Diagnostic and Treatment Center.  She and her team have developed brain training and education programs for thousands of children.

Dr. Nowinski's clinical research involves: Electrophysiological dysrhythmias associated with Autism and neurodevelopmental disorders; Eye movement related to brain behavior development, especially literacy development; Neurodevelopment of Whole-Brain Attention and Learning; Whole-Brain Intelligence.

In 2003, Dr. Nowinski and her family founded the Neuropsychology C.H.I.L.D (Child Health Initiative for Learning and Development) Foundation, non-profit 501 (c) (3).  The mission of the foundation is "To promote public awareness of current neuroscience and education research and clinical work related to child development and learning".  The Foundation has developed multiple programs especially the "Readers and Leaders" program available at libraries.  This program promotes the development of early literacy for children ages 3-6 years. 

Dr. Nowinski has spoken at multiple local, national and international conferences, often an invited speaker/keynote and has authored numerous child brain development papers.  She is a member of multiple professional organizations including the International Neuropsychology Society, National Academy of Neuropsychology, American Psychological Association-Neuropsychology Division, Society of Pediatric Psychology Division, The Illinois Psychological Association and Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology, among others.

She is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of Advanced Brain Technologies.  Dr. Nowinski is actively involved in health and education policy regarding child development and learning, especially early age intervention.

Dr. Nowinski is blessed with her family - her husband and four children.  All are involved in professions that espouse ideals that promote health and well-being.  Their six grandchildren are very special joys!
